The Funky Seomra – Irelands only alcohol and drug free nightclub! ‘No hang-over the day after a great night out? Having a great night without alcohol? Have you ever heard about “Funky Seomra”? It is a fantastic festival feel nightclub event where you can dance to funky music in an alcohol-free and drug-free atmosphere.
David Mooney started Funky Seomra in September 2008 in the Cultivate Centre in Temple Bar and it was immediately so popular that in January he moved the event to the RDS Concert Hall.’ (from the Dublin Event Guide) ‘The Funky Seomra is a huge success..it offers something unique: a real night out without alcohol or drugs…it is obviously needed and wanted in Dublin’ The Irish Times The Funky Seomra is Irelands very first alcohol and drug free world music night club.
The last event took place on March 14th 2009 and there were over 320 people dancing the night away, enjoying the Funky Seomra cafe with organic food and drinks, relaxing and chatting in the Funky Seomra chill out area with Giant Budda Bags, enjoying the play area with games, giant jenga, art, juggling, etc, taking in the beautiful visuals from the live VJs and dancing the night away to the excellent world music from DJ David Mooney and others.
The monthly event is fast becoming a hot ticket on the Saturday night club scene. People of all ages, from all backgrounds enjoy the festival night together. One participant, Annette, at the last event said ‘this is without doubt the best night of dancing I have ever had, I’ll be back again and again…and I can’t wait to tell all my friends’ Another participant, Patrick said ‘Its more than just a night out dancing, its like a festival night in itself, and its such a friendly atmosphere, I feel I can just be myself here..brilliant!’ Jessica, another participant had this to say ‘ To get to dance and interact with such a rich variety of people is wonderful! nowhere else do I get the chance to be in such a great atmosphere on a Saturday night and feel comfortable, thank you so much for creating this important event for Dublin’
